CPanel gives you control over your hosting. Through it you have access to your email, databases, website templates, scripts and much more. For a general overview of CPanel options available, click here.
I generally don't recommend changing much if you're unsure as to what it does, as there are options that could do serious damage to your website and would require time to repair.
To create a new email account, e.g. john@yourdomain.com:
- Log into Cpanel at cpanel.yourdomain.com.
- Select "Email Accounts" from the "Email" section.
- Enter your desired email, e.g. john and your password.
- Click on the "Create Account" button and your done!
Your POP Email is used from your home or office email client such as Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird, etc...
- Log into Cpanel at cpanel.yourdomain.com.
- Select "Email Accounts" from the "Email" section.
- In the second section down you will see all your current email addresses.
- Click on the "More" box on the far right and select "Configure Email Client".
- Read the difference between IMAP and POP3 and either choose and auto configuration of your client or use the supplied information to manually configure your email client.
Web mail is usually used if you don't have access to your normail email client and need access from a web browser.
- Log into Cpanel at cpanel.yourdomain.com.
- Select "Email Accounts" from the "Email" section.
- In the second section down you will see all your current email addresses.
- Click on the "More" box on the far right of your desired email and select "Web Mail". Note: don't follow the "Access Web Mail" link under the "Default Email Account" section.
- Insert the password you created for that email address.
- Choose your preferred web mail client (all three are pretty much the same).
- Once logged in, before you do anything else, I recommend bookmarking the page. This allows you to go directly to your web mail client in the future without the need to pass through CPanel.
